As the new year approaches, are you tired? Find Rest in Jesus!

Jesus tells all who labor to come unto him and he will give them rest. What is Jesus speaking of when he tells us he will give us rest? One of the ten commandments tells us to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. We know the law of God is spiritual. The bible also tells us, when we cease from our own works, we have entered into his rest. There is rest in Jesus. Jesus enables us to rest from our labor to be accepted of God, in him.

Salvation is a gift from God. Salvation is given to those who come to faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. What is the gospel of Jesus Christ? The gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead on the third day. When we come to faith in Jesus, we receive the holy spirit of God. Once we have the holy spirit of God, we are able to see the spiritual meanings hidden in the word of God. We then can understand all the commandments of God mean for us to trust in Jesus alone for salvation. However, those who do not have the spirit of God cannot see this. The believe the commandments to mean exactly what it says. The spiritual meaning is hidden from them. The spirit of God teaches us spiritual things once we receive him.

The bible tells us the natural man receiveth not the things of God. The natural mind cannot understand the word of God. The intended meaning of the word of God is spiritual. The bible tells us the spirit searches the deep things of God. The bible also tells us God’s truth is in the hidden wisdom. When Jesus opens the spiritual eyes of the blind, they can see that faith alone is Jesus is all that is required for salvation. Once we see this, we realize we do not have to do anything else to be accepted of God. We then can rest from our own labor and trust in the work of the cross of Jesus Christ.

However, many today still labor to be accepted of God. The cannot see the spiritual truth of the word of God. They interpret the word of God naturally and try to follow it naturally. However, the bible tells us we can only worship God in spirit and in truth. We cannot serve him with our own works of righteousness. We can never live good enough in the flesh to earn or keep salvation. Once we come to Jesus and he teaches us spiritual truth, we quit trying to be holy in the flesh. Those who do not have the spirit of God, must interpret the word of God naturally. One cannot possibly interpret the word of God spiritually without the spirit. The natural man does not know the things of the spirit of God. The spirit of God much teach us spiritual things. For him to teach us, we must first have received him.

The bible appears to tell us many rules we must live by in the flesh. However, when carefully studied with the guidance of the holy spirit, we see these commandments all tells us to have faith and trust in Jesus alone for salvation. Once we come to Jesus and receive the spirit of God, we are able to see the hidden meaning of the word of God. Therefore, when we come to Jesus, he gives us rest from our own works. Jesus is our Sabbath, spiritually speaking. When we come to him, we rest from our own works and trust in him. Those who are still trying to live holy within themselves remain in the flesh. They do this because they have not received the spirit of God. Once they receive the spirit of God, they too, will be taught the word of God spiritually with it’s hidden meanings.

Let us enter into the rest of Jesus. Let us no longer labor to try and be accepted of God. Faith alone in Jesus Christ is required for salvation. When we begin to require works as a necessary part of salvation, we have departed from the faith. Let us remain in the grace that is in Jesus Christ. Let us cease from our own works and enter into his rest. When we do this, we keep the Sabbath commandment spiritually by resting in Jesus, by no longer trying to live good within ourselves to be accepted or remain accepted of God. This commandment as well as all others are fulfilled in us when we serve God in the spirit. The law is fulfilled in us who do not walk after the flesh by trying to keep the commandments naturally. The law is fulfilled in us who follow God by the spiritual meaning of the law. The spiritual meaning of the commandment is to have faith and trust in Jesus alone for salvation. The law is fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. For the law, the commandment, of God is spiritual. We can not keep the commandments of God in the flesh by our own works. We must come to faith in Jesus and rest from our labor in him.
