7 Things to Remember When YOU Feel There Are No Answers..

Have you ever been in a season of life where doubt, fear, and anxiety seem to loom over you like an ever-present dark cloud? Have you ever felt so alone, so down, so hurt that you couldn’t seem to remember life ever being good? Have you ever wrestled with the big questions of life and faith and found yourself more confused than you started?

I’ve been there. We all have.

Even though I’m a follower of Christ, even though I’ve given my heart to him, even though I’m at church every Sunday and small group on Tuesdays, even though from the outside I look like a “good Christian,” I struggle. I doubt. I worry. I wonder sometimes if God is even there, if he even hears my prayers or cares at all. Sometimes, God just feels silent, distant, and uninterested in my life.

It’s in those times of doubt that I find myself desperately searching for reminders of what is true. In my head, I know that the Bible says the Lord is faithful, but my heart often feels so far from him. I often feel like he isn’t saying anything to me even when I’m pouring my heart out to him in prayer and worship. In the times when God seems silent, I need to be reminded that he is still near to me and still at work in my life.

Even in our wandering and wondering, God is faithful. Even when we question him, even when we run away from him, even when we think he has abandoned us, he is still faithful. Even when he is silent, he is still faithful to us.

Karina Allen, a writer for (in)courage, recently shared about the floods in Baton Rouge that have affected every part of her life and left her “one huge ball of nerves.” It’s often natural disasters that prompt us to ask the hard questions and tempt us to despair, but Allen shares a great word of truth: “It’s okay with Him. He can handle my questions. He can handle my doubts. He can handle my worries and fears. Because He is God.”

No matter what season of life you are in, let these seven verses and thoughts remind you of the faithfulness and presence of our good God:

  1. “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” (Psalm 54:4)
  2. “God is the same yesterday, today and forever,” Allen says. “He never changes. He is unmoved by any circumstance and nothing comes as a surprise to Him.”
  3. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
  4. “His love for us lasts for an eternity,” writes Allen. “He is always good. Every morning there is a new opportunity for Him to move on our behalf. He is a provider for every need. He holds us.”
  5. “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
  6. “As I poured out my fears for the future,” iBelieve writer Lori Schumaker shares, “God revealed: ‘I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.’ (>Isaiah 45:2-3)
  7. Crosswalk contributor Debbie McDaniel shares: “These powerful words of an old hymn are filled with such truth, grace, and relevance still for this day… The Truth remains through all eternity. Jesus is the Rock that won’t move. He’s the Rock that won’t budge.”

“My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

All other ground is sinking sand.”

Even as believers, we aren’t always in mountaintop seasons of life. Sometimes, we are in the middle of valleys that seem dark or in the middle of storms that seem relentless. Sometimes, we can’t seem to hear the voice of God over the noise of this world or the static in our own hearts. “Sometimes we are the Moses who obeys God and sees the supernatural occur,” Allen says. “But sometimes we are the Moses who needs an Aaron and a Hur to hold up our arms during a battle when we are too weary.” It’s okay with him. He is always with us, even when we can’t hear him.

May God remind you of the truth of who he is today– a faithful, ever-present, loving Father who will never leave you nor forsake you!
