When long term problems are exhausting, Jesus can help!

There is a very specific kind of tired that sleep cannot fix. It’s the exhaustion that settles deep into your bones when a problem doesn’t just last for a week or a month, but for years. We know that feeling of waking up and realizing the mountain is still there, the bank account is still low, or the body is still aching. It’s a heavy, lingering weight that makes every small task feel like climbing Everest.

If you are reading this and you feel completely drained, we want you to know one thing right away: it is okay to be tired. You are not a failure because you feel the weight of your circumstances. You aren’t “unspiritual” because you’re struggling to find the energy to smile. We serve a Savior, Jesus, who deeply understands what it means to carry a heavy load. He isn’t looking at your exhaustion with disappointment; He’s looking at you with the deepest compassion imaginable.

Validating the Weight You Carry

Sometimes, the world tells us to just “push through” or “grind harder.” But we know that when problems are long-term, “pushing through” often leads to burnout. Let’s take a moment to acknowledge the reality of what many of us are facing right now:

  • Financial Strain: The constant math of trying to make ends meet, the fear of an unexpected bill, and the feeling that you’re running on a treadmill that never stops.
  • Family Disunity: The heartbreak of a broken relationship with a child, a parent, or a spouse that doesn’t seem to get better no matter how much you pray or try.
  • Chronic Sickness and Pain: The physical toll of a body that feels like it’s failing you, and the mental toll of wondering if you’ll ever feel “normal” again.
  • Workplace Stress: Carrying a heavy workload that never lightens, dealing with toxic environments, or the fear of job instability.
  • Loneliness: Feeling like you are fighting these battles entirely by yourself, even when people are around you.

These aren’t just “complaints.” These are heavy burdens that Jesus sees and cares about. When we are in the middle of these long-term battles, it’s easy to feel like the lack of a “viable solution” means there is no hope. But we want to encourage you to hold on. Endurance doesn’t mean you have more strength; it means you are leaning more on the strength of Jesus.

Jesus is the Source of Our Endurance

We often think of endurance as a human muscle we have to build. We think if we just work harder, we’ll eventually get over the hump. But true spiritual endurance, the kind that keeps you standing when everything is falling apart, comes from Jesus.

Jesus doesn’t give us a map and tell us to find our way out of the woods. He walks into the woods with us. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Notice He doesn’t say He will give you a list of chores. He doesn’t say He will give you more work. He says He will give you rest.

When we look at the life of Jesus, we see someone who was familiar with long-term suffering. He was “a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” He understands the loneliness of being misunderstood. He knows the physical pain of the cross. Because He has been through the ultimate exhaustion, He is the only one who can truly sustain us when our own reserves are at zero.

The Pressure to “Do More”

One of the hardest parts of long-term problems is the internal pressure we put on ourselves. We think we need to be doing more to fix the situation. We think if we just fasted longer, worked more hours, or read more self-help books, the problem would vanish.

But sometimes, the only thing we are called to do is abide. Abiding in Jesus isn’t an active, frantic movement. It’s a posture of the heart. It’s saying, “Jesus, I can’t fix this financial crisis, I can’t heal my own body, and I can’t make my family get along. But I am going to stay right here with You.”

Endurance is simply refusing to give up on Jesus. It’s not about how fast you’re moving; it’s about which direction you’re facing. Even if you are crawling, as long as you are crawling toward Jesus, you are winning the battle. He is the one who provides the resources when we have none. He is the one who opens doors that have been rusted shut for years.

Faith for the Impossible

We have to realize that our “lack of viable solutions” is actually the perfect stage for Jesus to move. If we could solve our problems on our own, we wouldn’t need a miracle. But we serve the King of the impossible.

Having faith doesn’t mean you have all the answers. Faith is simply trusting that Jesus has the answers even when you can’t see them. It is believing that He is working behind the scenes of your family disunity, your sickness, and your loneliness. We need faith not just to “get through” the day, but to believe that Jesus is capable of reversing the years of damage that life has caused.

Jesus can reverse a bad decision you made ten years ago. He can restore the years the locusts have eaten. He can take a situation that looks like a dead end and turn it into a highway of blessing. But this kind of turnaround usually doesn’t happen when we are running at 100 miles per hour; it happens when we finally come to the end of ourselves and say, “Jesus, I am too tired. You take over.”

Don’t Lose Heart

If you are in a season of exhaustion, please don’t lose heart. The fact that you are still here, still seeking, and still holding on is a testimony to the grace of Jesus in your life. The enemy wants you to think that your exhaustion is a sign of defeat. He wants you to think that because you are tired, you have lost the fight.

That is a lie.

Your exhaustion is simply a signal that you were never meant to carry this much for this long by yourself. You were created to be dependent on Jesus. When we are weak, His strength is made perfect. That sounds like a cliché until you are actually at your breaking point and you realize that the only thing keeping you upright is His invisible hand.

Take a deep breath. You don’t have to solve everything tonight. You don’t have to have a five-year plan for your recovery. You just need to walk through the next hour with Jesus. He is the resource you’ve been looking for. He is the solution when there are no viable paths forward.

Let’s Pray Together

We know that some of you are carrying weights that feel unbearable today. We want to stand with you in prayer and invite Jesus into the very middle of your exhaustion.

Dear Jesus,

We come to You today on behalf of every person reading this who feels like they are at the end of their rope. Jesus, You see the long-term problems that have drained their energy and stolen their joy. You see the financial burdens, the physical pain, the family heartaches, and the deep loneliness. We ask that You would step into these circumstances right now.

Jesus, we invite You into the places where there seems to be no solution. We ask for Your supernatural strength to sustain us when our own strength is gone. We stop trying to fix everything in our own power and we hand the heavy lifting over to You. Give us the grace to endure without the pressure to perform. Let us feel Your presence so clearly that the weight of our problems begins to feel lighter.

We trust You, Jesus, to do what only You can do. Reverse the hostile situations, heal the broken bodies, and provide for every need according to Your riches. We thank You for being our rest and our hope. Amen.

We want to encourage you: keep going. You are closer to your breakthrough than you think, and even if the road is still long, Jesus is walking every single inch of it with you. You aren’t failing; you are being carried. Trust in His timing and His heart for you.
